Table Salt for Clockmakers' Company

Commissioned by the first ever lady Master of the Clockmakers' company and presented to the company at the end of her year in office.

The design of the salt draws on themes related to the measurement of time. The salt is in the form of a globe marked with lines of latitude and longitude, angled at 23.5 degrees (the angle at which the earth tilts, relative to the sun). The globe sits atop a plinth, in the manner of a sundial. The spoon takes the shape of Old Father Time's scythe.

The plinth carries the coats of arms of the Clockmakers' company and the donor, engraved by David Bedford of J J Bergin in London. Presented in a maple carrying case by Andrew Varah. 18.5cm high.
